After two weeks in BA we were ready for a change of scenery and Valparaiso was just the ticket. Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways. The hills are full of colourful buildings, cute craft shops and little cafes which make it perfect for strolling through.

In 1996, the World Monuments Fund declared Valparaíso’s unusual system of elevators (which are like cable cars) one of the world’s 100 most endangered historical treasures. Shame the one we wanted to take was broken so we had to take the stairs!
